'Our family was given a Christmas miracle': 9-year-old childhood cat is found after 2 years missing, reuniting with the family just in time for the holidays

Thankfully, we were lucky enough to reunite with our cat, and only 24 hours after she had escaped. And if those 24 hours were the worst 24 hours of our lives, we can only imagine what it's like to lose a cat for 2 years and have it come back. 

When this person says that her cat coming back after 2 years feels like a Christmas miracle, we believe them.     2 years ago, we let my 7 year old cat, which I had since I was 9 years old, outside as we usually did, and sadly he did not return.

    The first couple months I was scared to leave our apartment alone or to sleep as I was afraid he'd return with no one to let him inside. It wasn't until around the one year mark I'd finally lost hope and accepted he was gone.

    That changed until around last Tuesday, before the holidays, that my mom had received a text from a veterinary clinic 30 minutes away had found our cat and scanned his chip, alerting us right away.

  • We cannot even imagine the pain that you must have gone through losing this kitty. We would have probably reacted the same way that you did - literally not leaving the house on the off chance that the kitty might come back. We hope that these two years were not too difficult for the cat, that he was with some other family who loved him and gave him everything that he needed. Either way, he's back now, and he's safe, and that is all that matters.

    OP GlizzyGuzzlingMaster Even before he ran away, he's had several other part-time families. Our apartment complex loves him, especially the younger kids. He once had a part-time family with a couple that lived a building over, they bought him wet food and named him Potato Salad. Another woman would take morning walks with him, lol

  • And this is where the problem with indoor/outdoor cats arises. We understand the argument for both sides, we really do, but after something like this, we don't know if we would have been able to risk letting the cat out on unsupervised trips again. Get a leash, take the kitty on walks, make sure that it gets its outside time as much as he wants - but supervised. He is too old to be running around on its own out in the big world, and he just came back to you. Keep this purrfect fluffball safe.

    Prestigious-Way 1118 Omg I am so delighted for both of you, it's a weird but magical feeling. Our boy was gone 19 months before we got the exact same call. We had gotten another cat after the 14 month mark and now they are snuggle buddies

    OP GlizzyGuzzlingMaster We adopted a rescued pitbull while he was gone, lol. He has a younger Tuxedo Cat sister that he knew for awhile, they were fighting but they're learning to cuddle again, also warming up to the dog now, lol

    OP GlizzyGuzzlingMaster No one knows nothing so far. A police officer had found him in a part of town 30 minutes away, as far as we can guess, someone took him in for 2 years or he's been bouncing around homes

    Sissycain 100% i suspect someone stole him, given the almost exact 2 years + how clean and well fed he is i would bet their lease was up and they either let him go or he got out and ran away
